Killer Weather Can Equal Killer Pests

Posted on January 3rd, 2012 by Stormy in Uncategorized

One of the facts of life that come with weather changes is that with each weather change comes a new pest. Thankfully, as technology has advanced property owners now know what to look for to keep the properties that they own pest free.

Winter Pests

With the winter months come an increase in age old pets like cockroaches, ants, termites and spiders. These critters go indoors searching for warmth to avoid the harsh, wet weather conditions that come with winter weather. To avoid these pests anyone who owns their own home or commercial building should inspect that building before the start of every weather to make sure that the interior and exterior of the building is properly weatherized and insure that all access points are closed so pests can’t make their way indoors.

Summer Pests

When summer arrives more pests will be literally coming out of the woodwork to enjoy the summer weather as well. Some of the most common summer pests are: June Bugs, house flies, bats, squirrels and raccoons. To keep these pests from ruining the summer months any home owner should make sure that the property surrounding their home is free of trash and other debris that pests are attracted to. This might be especially hard to do after a nice summer barbecue but it’s important to avoid the long term hassle that can come from pests.

Fall Pests

As the weather starts to get a little cooler across the country, the average pest recognizes this and like humans they will be taking steps to protect themselves by seeking shelter and warmer environments. Some of the most common pests during fall months are cockroaches, centipedes and silverfish. To avoid these pests any home or building owner should make sure that the interior of their buildings is properly weatherized, especially in bathrooms where most pests are attracted to standing water.

If you do find that your property has become infested, you’ll be able to solve the problem with the right pest control.

Protect Your Plants From Killer Weather With Indoor Grow Lamps

Posted on November 14th, 2011 by Stormy in Uncategorized

Just because the weather outside is frightful it doesn’t mean that the condition of your plants need to be. Indoor gardens can flourish year round with the right kinds of equipment and a little TLC.

Let the Sunshine In

The sun is good for our indoor plants but grow lights are 2 things that sunshine isn’t. 1) Dependable- with a timer on your grow lamp you will be able to supply much more regulated, nourishing light that your plants need in order to grow strong and healthy. 2) Adjustable- the sun can be intensely hot and unforgiving. It can dry out your plants before you know it. A good grow lamp puts out just the right amount of heat and light to maintain a steady supply of some of the most crucial ingredients to your indoor garden. Humidity is another thing that your plants crave and can be monitored indoors much easier than it can in an outdoor setting.

This One’s Just Right

That’s really what it boils down to…keeping conditions for your indoor garden just right. This is literally impossible out of doors. Too much dry heat and no rain and your plants bake, dry out and die. Too much rain and not enough drainage and they rot. To cold and they simply won’t flourish. And frost….oh don’t even mention the word in front of your plants; that’s just cruel. Mother Nature may have started all this plant stuff but man has most definitely improved the process by bringing it indoors. Don’t be afraid to spend a little money on the equipment for your indoor garden’s either. Don’t go crazy, but get dependable lamps, humidifiers, watering systems (if you go that route) and other supplies from reputable dealers and merchants. A little research online never hurt either when it comes to protecting your plants.

As the fall and winter months are quickly approaching so is the possibility of “killer weather”. Many states around the country are expected to receive colder weather, more rain and more snow than last year. One of the negative effects of bad weather is that these weather conditions make it hard for working individuals to go to work every day and when you can’t work, you don’t earn any money.

5 Worst Hurricanes in History

If you live in a hurricane-prone area you know that there are always problems that can come up suddenly and without a whole lot of warning. There have been a lot of bad storms out there, but these five are some of the worst in history:

1. The 1839 Indian Cyclone killed more than 300,000 people.

2. The 1970 Bhola Cyclone that hit Bangladesh took the lives of 500,000 people in that area.

3. In 1881 there was a Typhoon that hit Haiphong, Vietnam. It killed 300,000 people.

4. India was hit by the Calcutta Cyclone in 1737, and the lives of 300,000 people were lost.

5. During 1975 Super Typhoon Nina brought her fury to China and 210,000 people lost their lives.

As frightening as these hurricanes are, none of them have been recent, and even devastation from storms like Andrew, Ivan, Ike, and Katrina can’t compare with some of the damage to human life that’s happened in the past. That doesn’t mean, however, that there won’t be something of this magnitude of devastation in the future of the planet.
