The weather can be very unkind to your car, especially if you live in a winter climate where you experience a lot of snow and freezing weather. Of course, too much heat and/or humidity can also bother your car, so problems aren’t limited to wintertime or to certain areas of the country.
Getting a New Car
If you decide to get a new car, you should know that junk cars still have some value. In other words, you’ll be able to get some money for that car that you’re not sure what to do with, so don’t just scrap it for free – find a play willing to buy junk car.
What to do With the Old Car
With your old car, you can make a donation to charity. You can also get money for junk cars through selling them for scrap metal, and some people like to buy old cars and fix them up so they can resell them. Consider all your options before you make a decision.
Your car won’t last forever, even in a place with good weather. You should live in a place where you like the weather, and just keep in mind the toll that can take on your car.
When you have friends or relatives in a faraway place and you hear about hurricanes, tornadoes and other types of killer weather you worry. It’s only natural. But if you had dish TV you could tune into The Weather Channel or any news channel to keep an eye on what’s happening.
Dish Or Cable?
Satellite (or dish) TV allows us to watch shows that we would never ordinarily be able to watch on standard local TV channels. So does cable. But if you think about it, even cable TV is actually dish TV. How do you think that cable television gets its signal? From satellites. How does cable television catch signals from the satellites? Satellite dishes. The only difference is how it gets your house.
When It’s Headed Your Way
Granted, your local stations will undoubtedly keep track of impending doom as it relates to your local weather; but nothing gives you the bigger, all inclusive picture like pay TV channels. Local channels have more news to report on than just weather after all. Channels that deal with nothing but weather will have constant updates and the newest information.
Don’t wait for the warning siren to go off in your town. Stay ahead of the game.
Let’s face it… The safer you drive the easier it will be to find cheap car insurance quotes. Safe drivers with no tickets get far lower insurance premiums than people who drive around like a demon from hell.
Oh The Weather Outside Is Frightful
And so is being behind the wheel in bad weather. Heavy rains can produce flooding situations that can rise up out of nowhere. If you can slow down in time, going through water slowly is your best bet. Try to judge how high the water is however, because you may not want to go through it at all. Turning around and completely avoiding it may be your best option.
Driving In Snow Is Treacherous
Snow and ice is probably the worst case scenario when it comes to driving. Black ice in particular is something that you never notice until it’s too late. Once it’s too late you basically have to ride it out. Cars with anti lock brakes do the brake pumping for you; in older cars you may have to do it yourself. Experts tell you to turn into a spin, but black ice is something that no one can really prepare for or successfully deal with. I have in fact lost friends to black ice situations.
The best way to drive safe in bad weather… Don’t drive.
What happens in a natural disaster? Phone lines go down, cell towers collapse, general havoc is wreaked upon basic networking.
Just The Basics Please
If you have a basic cell phone with a basic cell phone service company contract, contacting your loved ones to let them know that you’re safe or to make sure that they are safe could be next to impossible. Had you taken advantage of any one of the SIM only deals for cell phone contracts you would stand a far better chance of being able to get in touch with someone; even in the worst of conditions. Why is that? Texting through your SIM account utilizes less resources of networking than does basic cell phone calling.
If The Disaster Occurs Abroad
Whereas emergency services usually request that if you must use your cell phone to check on loved ones during a disaster you keep it brief it’s still good to know that with one of these special contracts there are no roaming charges for calls abroad; provided you can get through. Texting may still be your best bet.
No one wants to think about what happens when Mother Nature rains her fury down upon us. It’s good to know that you can at least be better prepared with a SIM only cell phone/internet contract.
